"I love seeing the airplane come together and then standing by the runway and watching it take off."
Part Of A Larger Team
"Gulfstream is such a well-known name. It makes you feel proud to know that you were a part of something much bigger. Everybody who works here, they're all great people. It's a great company to work for. I enjoy the camaraderie. I hang with the guys I work with. It's like you leave your family at home and you come to your second family.
"I love what I do. Maybe it's the fact that we actually build airplanes. We're all a part of something huge. Every one of us contributes a little bitty piece of what comes together at the end. I love seeing the airplane come together and then standing by the runway and watching it take off."
Transition From Military Service
After serving eight years in National Guard installing and adjusting communications radios on vehicles at her duty station, Amanda joined Gulfstream in 1999. She learned quickly, progressing through final line mechanic I and II to reach her present position.
"I hang engines. We install the engines and the APUs. We hook up the hydraulics and work on the electrical system. When it leaves us, the airplane is ready to go test and fly. It's pretty cool, really."
